The Sharpest Minds \ Tournament Series


The Sharpest Minds Tournament Series (SMS) consists of 10 completely separate tournament matches over the course of 12 months to acknowledge the top earning weekend warriors and the "Sharpest Minds of the Year" or top yearly earning horseplayers.  Each "SMS" tournament match has a portion of the prize money go to the top 3 earners of the weekend warrior "SMS" tournament matches and a portion of the "SMS" tournament prize money will go into a separate pool for the top 3 earners across all "SMS" tournaments for "Sharpest Minds of the Year" top 3 awards.  Each "SMS" tournament is its own match with no money from previous contests being applied to the next "SMS" tournament bankroll; however, the total earnings for the year will be used to determine "The Sharpest Minds of the Year" winners.

The tournament series commences in the early part of June and shall end in May for its first year.  The tournaments will be held in person at various racetracks and satellite wagering facilities nationwide.  Our goal is to host at Del Mar Racetrack, Surfside Raceplace, Santa Anita Park, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, et al.

"SMS" Tournament Format

  • $4,000 Buy-In per tournament
  • $2,000 live bankroll
  • $1800 allocated for prize pools
  • $200 fee
  • Limited to 1 entry per person
  • Win, Exacta, and Trifecta only
  • Multiple racetracks offered at each tournament
  • Each player must bet $2000 before the 2nd to last race
  • 75% of the prize pool goes to the "SMS" Tournament Match Prize Pool and 25% of the prize pool goes to "The Sharpest Minds of the Year" prize pool
  • The 75% payout for the prize pool of a weekend warrior "SMS" Tournament Match breaks down as follows: 50% to 1st, 20% to 2nd, 5% to 3rd
  • Payout for the "Sharpest Minds of the Year" Prize Pool is 25% from each of the ten "SMS" weekend match tournaments
  • Payout for "The Sharpest Minds of the Year" Prize Pool is based on the final cumulative earnings over the course of all 10 "SMS" tournaments, as of the final "SMS" tournament held in May 2016 with 65% to the person with the highest cumulative earnings, 27% to the person second in cumulative earnings, 8% to the person finishing 3rd in cumulative earnings
  • The first tournament of the year will be held in June of 2015 and the final tournament (10th tournament) will be held in May of 2016 .
